Fundraising
What is the fundraising program?
We make fundraising easy! We ask all families to participate in the purchase of Grocery Gift Cards. The reason this fundraising program is so great is because it doesn’t cost you a penny. You don’t have to sell anything, you don’t have to buy chocolates, magazines or other silly things that you don’t want or need. Instead, you purchase grocery gift cards from the Club and use them to purchase your groceries at the grocery stores. All you have to do is eat!
How much do I have to buy?
We no longer have minimum fundraising requirements for CanSkate families. However, we do hope you will support the LSC by voluntarily purchasing grocery gift cards to use for the purchase of your groceries.
There are no minimum fundraising requirements for CanPowerSkate or AdultSkate families.
Minimum fundraising commitments for STARSkate and SynchroSkate and families are based on the highest-level registered skater in the family. This is a per family commitment, not a per skater commitment. For example, if you have one child registered in Group STARSkate and one child registered in Private Lesson STARSkate you are required to fulfill the commitment for a Private Lesson skating family only.
NEW FOR THIS SEASON:
The Lethbridge Skating Club will no longer collect Commitment Guarantee Cheques for the Volunteer and Fund Raising policies as we have in the past from STARSkate and SynchroSkate families. Post-dated commitment guarantee items of $200 for each policy will now be added to the member registration invoice at time of registration. These items will become due May 1, 2019. These invoice items will be voided before the due date if all required commitments for volunteering and fund raising have been met.
The commitments are as follows:
We require each family whose highest-level skater is registered in PRIVATE LESSON STARSkate to purchase a minimum of $2000 of grocery gift cards over the course of the season.
We require each family whose highest-level skater is registered in GROUP STARSkate to purchase a minimum of $1500 of grocery gift cards over the course of the season.
We require each family who have skaters registered in SynchroSkate to contribute 5 hours of volunteering over the course of the season AND purchase $500 in grocery gift cards OR contribute 10 hours of volunteering over the course of the season and purchase no grocery gift cards.
How is this a fundraiser?
The grocery store chains give the Lethbridge Skating Club a kickback for buying grocery gift cards in large quantities.
How do the cards work?
The gift cards come in denominations of $25, $50 and $100. You can buy as many or as few as you like at a time. When you use the cards at the store to purchase groceries any remaining balance stays on the card for you to use for your next purchase.
What stores can I use the cards at?
Safeway, Sobeys, Save on Foods and Superstore. They can be used all over Canada.
Are there other advantages to the grocery card fundraising program?
Yes! Some people give the grocery cards as gifts at Christmas; others use them to give to their older children instead of cash. And, if you choose to do so, you can sell the grocery gift cards you purchase from the Club to friends and family and work towards earning credit you can put towards next year’s registration fees. The LSC will give families a credit of 3% of the grocery cards purchased in excess of the required commitment amount for the current Fall-Winter season. Credit will be posted to Uplifter accounts at the end of the season in the form of a gift certificate which can be applied to any future LSC invoice. Credits must be used within 12 months of the end of the season in which it was accumulated. Credits are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. CanSkate families can begin to earn a 3% credit on any purchase of grocery gift cards in excess of $1000.
How does the LSC track my purchases and what happens if I choose not to participate?
Each time you purchase grocery gift cards the seller records the amount and your name. The Club keeps track of how much each family has purchased. If you have purchased your required amount of grocery cards, your post-dated commitment guarantee item of $200 on your registration invoice will be voided before May 1, 2019. If you choose to opt out and not fulfill your fund raising commitment through the purchase of grocery gift cards, your commitment guarantee line item of $200 will be processed on May 1, 2019. You have until March 30th, 2019 to purchase your grocery cards and fulfill your fund raising commitment.
