VOLUNTEERING

What is the Volunteering program?

At the Lethbridge Skating Club we recognize the importance of volunteering. We ask families to participate in and help facilitate the delivery of successful club events. Descriptions of various volunteer duties required throughout the season at various events can be found here.

We no longer have minimum volunteer requirements for CanSkate families. However, when you sign your child up to participate in events involving your CanSkate children we will ask you to commit to helping out so that we may deliver a successful experience for your child. Aside from the weekly lesson schedule, there are two events during the Fall-Winter season that are designed for the enjoyment and participation of CanSkate children:
  • Frozen Fest Element Event - Saturday, January 23, 2021
  • Carnival (Annual Ice Show) - Saturday, March 27, 2021
There are no volunteer requirements for CanPowerSkate or AdultSkate families.

STARSkate and SynchroSkate families are asked to volunteer a number of hours each season based on the highest-level registered skater in the family. This is a per family commitment, not a per skater commitment. For example; if you have one child registered in Group STARSkate and one child registered in Private Lesson STARSkate you are required to fulfill the commitment for a Private Lesson skating family only.

The commitments are as follows:

We require each family whose highest-level skater is registered in PRIVATE LESSON STARSkate to complete the following two requirements:
  • 16 hours of volunteering of which must include: 1 Chinook open shift AND 1 Carnival shift
  • 5 Ice Ambassador Shifts throughout the Fall-Winter season (October-March)
    • Job Description: Ice Ambassador
    • See sign-up link below

We require each family whose highest-level skater is registered in GROUP STARSkate to complete:
  • 10 hours of volunteering of which must include:
    • 1 Carnival Shift
    • 1 Chinook Open

We require each family who have skaters registered in SynchroSkate to complete:
  • 5 hours of volunteering over the course of the season

There are 4 events where the majority of families are able to fulfill their volunteering commitment:
  • Toys for Tots - Saturday, December 5th, 2020
  • Frozen Fest Element Event - Saturday, January 23rd, 2021
  • Chinook Open Competition – March 5th - 7th, 2021
  • Carnival (Annual Ice Show) - Saturday, March 27th, 2021
Additional opportunities are generally posted on the club's bulletin boards at ATB Centre and Civic Ice Centre or sent via email to club members.

Please remember that these are the minimums. There are many, many families who contribute far more than the minimum and the Lethbridge Skating Club is grateful for their generous contribution. It is your efforts that make our programs and events great for our kids!

Please note: Due to the fluid situation of COVID-19, the Volunteer Policy may be amended in the event of cancellation of events.

VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT GUARANTEE:

A post-dated commitment guarantee item of $200 will be added to the member registration invoice at time of registration. If the ‘Pay by Instalment’ option is chosen at check-out, this item will appear on the registration invoice as a payment with a due date of May 1, 2021. This item will be voided before the due date if the required commitment for volunteering has been met.

If you wish to pay your registration invoice in full at time of registration, please select ‘Pay by Instalment’, complete the required initial payment, then navigate to your ‘Account’ page and proceed to pay the balance of your invoice less the $200 commitment guarantee.

If you choose to opt out and not fulfill your volunteer hours, your commitment guarantee line item of $200 will be processed on May 1, 2021. You have until March 31st, 2021 to fulfill your volunteer hours commitment.
